Lack of service and integrity

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Citibank did nothing to help during COVID. I had to use credit to get by so my balance got high. Then later I had a car accident and was injured requiring me to use credit. Again, no help. The interest rate is ridiculous and while I continue pay the balance down regardless the hardship, every time I make a payment they arbitrarily lower my available credit which worsens my credit score, then they have the nerve to notify me they detected a negative change in my credit rating. Ive paid no matter what. The least they could do is be there for me in return.

Pros:
  • Zero interest balance transfer
Cons:
  • High interest
  • Will arbitrarily change credit limit at whim
  • Poor customer service

Preferred solution: Apology, lower interest, keep their word on the credit line and stop moving the goal post.

User's recommendation: If you use the zero balance transfer get it paid before interest and CLOSE THE CARD

Credit Card Cancellation

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review Dec 26, 2023

Credit card ending 4283**** & MC 7553****. I have been a loyal customer for over 18 years, and I am also a disabled Viet Nam Veteran.

My wife is the Primary card holder (Rosalina S. Kasten) and pays and keeps track of our accounts. We went to the Philippines to celebrate out 50th wedding anniversary. While there she tried to contact MC Citibank to make a payment.

The person on the other end of the line could not answer basic questions (such as where they were located and other information). There are allot of scammers overseas and my wife though that she was being scammed, so she cancelled the payment and tried to get ahold of Wells Fargo to make the payment. For whatever reason she could not call out of the Philippines. A payment of Two Thousand was paid on the account, shortly thereafter both cards were cancelled by Citibank.

This kind of stress makes me violently ill due to Agent Orange and other chemical exposure. We pay with the credit cards to receive the rewards (which I feel I got screwed out of) and also have reliable records. Every creditor is sending me emails and letters demanding payment. I am having a hard time dealing with this and trying to set up a debit card with Wells Fargo, with whom I have been a customer since 2016 (but never applied for a debit card and use your cards instead), which has been approved but I have to wait until the card to arrive.

I feel Citibank has been heartless in this instance, humiliating me for purchases denied - and creditors sending embarrassing letters/emails. Look at my credit score, look at all the payments I made for 18 years without issues, the number of monthly payments made in full without carrying any balance forward. This year a balance was carried over due to our trip to the Philippines, helping my daughter (who is going through a rough divorce with 3 kids) and not receiving my $ 15,000.00 C4D payment. I don't depend on Citibank or do I need your cards.

The convenience of paying with a Citi Visa card at Costco makes it worth having. Citi Mastercard is great at monitoring unusual spending and contact us.

.

I see there is a link on how to take legal action against Citibank and ways to report Citibank to the B.B.B. I am not that type of person.

I am asking you as a loyal customer for 18 years to reinstate my credit cards and also my rewards (which I earned).

Pros:
  • Great card to have
Cons:
  • Will not listen to loyal customers

Preferred solution: Have my credit cards reinstated along with my rewards points.

User's recommendation: Number of years as a loyal custome means nothing to Citibank

Citi just canceled both of my cards. I pay in full on time every month for years.

I have over 800 credit. No reason given. I was told to wait for a letter with in 2 weeks. I just applied for a Well Fargo 2% back card and was accepted- took less than 1 minute online.

I do not need Citi cards- they are horrible when you dispute any charges- I was doubled charged at a car rental (Budget) and they would not help, after months I finally called Budget and got someone to reverse the double charge. Citi sucks.

So you were late once on your two Citi cards. How does that translate to other creditors sending you letters and emails demanding payment.

There are multiple Citi branches in the Philippines and their national bank is also affiliated with Wells Fargo.

Citi also takes automated payments over the phone. It seems like you have more going on then two late payments.

If you're Citi card is cancelled, and payments is automatically withdrawn from the card - they will send non-payment letters. There was no late payment on our Costco Citi card - it was cancelled because the MC Citi card was cancelled.

They may have many Citibank locations in the PI. Many places are so remote that there is no access to them unless you want to travel long distances.

Canceled all 3 of my Citi cards for no reason and owe me about $300 in 2% back card

I pay on time and in full every month for years. My credit score in 800+ I mostly use my 2% back card. Citi just canceled all my credit cards and can only give me a reason if I request it in writing via email, mail, or fax. They also owe me over $300 in my 2% cash back. I sent the email and now they have 30 days to respond. I looked on line and got a Wells Fargo 2% back card approved in less then 2 minutes.

Turned down for credit increase.

I have had NO response from Citicard and do not expect any as many major banks don't care about people. It's all about the money so I will just freeze the card. If I tore up the card it would just lower my credit score so why give them any victory.

Updated by user Aug 03, 2023

UPDATE 8/02/23This is their reason for no credit increase. I am adding my response to each of their reasons listed::Citicard- Keep your credit report in good shape (me: 824 credit score.)• Be sure to pay at least your minimum payment due by the payment due date each...

After being a customer for almost 15 years, I wanted to increase my credit limit in order to make larger purchases which wouldn't affect my credit scores. I recently purchased a new refrigerator for $2700.

My credit limit was only $3000, so this would have used 90% of my credit, lowering my credit score. Citi turned down my request for an increase, so I had to use another card which paid lower rewards, but have tripled their credit limit.
I am entitled to an explanation as to why I was rejected. They said I would get a letter with the explanation within 30 days. It's been past 2 months and still no explanation.

When you click on to "contact" them, a host of questions pop up, but not anything about my problem. When I went on their AI chat, it responded it didn't understand my questions. So much for their artificial intelligence!
The only conclusion I can draw is possible age discrimination since my credit score is over 800, and I have never missed a payment in 15 years.

My complaint is they are violating possibly two federal laws in not responding to an explanation of why I was turned on my request for a credit increase, and a possible age discrimination. All I am asking for is why Citi Rewards refused my request?

Citi canceled my 3 cards and I pay in full every month for years. Just get a Wells Fargo card, took my less than 2 minutes.

If your credit rating is, in fact, "over 800" I'd suggest you cancel your Citi card and do business with another card. Any credit rating over 800 is indeed a very good rating.

It only goes up to 850.

In my opinion, City card doesn't deserve your business. That's assuming your rating is "over 800".

Credit card companies get away with murder. Might I suggest a balance transfer to DISCOVER.

They have ALWAYS TREATED ME with respect and value as a customer.

My credit increases have been frequent and large. Give them a call.

Thank you for your comment. I wanted to purchase a new refrigerator that would have used 75% of the credit limit causing a big hit on my credit score. Their points paid more than my other cards, including my Discover card.

Disputes that were closed

I filed two disputes in April of this year for two charges of $828. I tried purchasing a firearm from Gunbroker.com and the seller had requested I send the money through PayPal and for my first time doing a purchase through that site I thought that was normal.

I sent the money and sent confirmation through text to the seller and then the next morning I got an email from Gunbroker believing the seller was fraudulent after the firearm listed was deleted along with the sellers account.

I have emails to show all of this but both disputes filed had been reversed and closed to where I still owe both charges even though I never received the product I intended on purchasing. Any information on reopening these disputes would be greatly appreciated, and I can also provide all the screenshots I have as well

Original review Mar 01, 2023
I made a purchase of some sort from this company and something went wrong but I did not receive the item or service. It was a couple months ago and I cannot recall the purchase.

Citi Card contacted the company and was told by this "Shyster" company that I received what ever it was and yet I received nothing. Now Citi has closed the dispute and made me responsible for the charge. I am sure this "Shyster" company would say anything to Citi Cards so they could get their money. I don't even know what the purchase was and Citi put nothing in my dispute case about what the purchase was for.

So I owe the money. I would love to pay them $1.00 per month! Do not deal with Amazing Electronic Cheap. I can't even find their website now.

Be weary!

Before dealing with a company read all the reviews and blog sites you can about them. The internet is full of bad companies.

Citi Card not at fault. Excellent company!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

In my dispute with Amazing Electronics Cheap Citi Card was not at any fault. Amazing Electronics placed a refund on my card one day and did not notify me of the transaction.

Citi Card the next day put a conditional refund on my card stating if Amazing Electronics refunded then I would have to pay Citi back for the conditional refund. Citi Card did nothing wrong. They simply requested that I pay back the extra refund. Amazing Electronics Cheap is the shady company.

I wanted to make this very clear because Citi did nothing wrong.

I like Citi Cards very much. They are an excellent company and very fair in their dealings with me.

Where do I begin. Fraud was detected oct 22, I was told to cut up my card they would send a new one. I never received a card. Then they showed missing/ late payments starting Nov,22. It's now Feb, and I have canceled checks, cashed by them, and they say the haven't gotten payment. Can't get a manager, and every customer service person has different info than the last! Opened a dispute on the 12 th... It's the 16 th and they show no dispute! Wtf? I'm ready to get a lawyer.
